Faculty Development for Research

The Office of the Associate Dean for Research offers a variety of faculty development options. Dive into the resources below to find what is available to the faculty of The Grainger College of Engineering.

The GEAR (Grainger Engineers Accelerating Research) Program helps tenure-track and specialized faculty new to Grainger Engineering launch their research through in-person meetings covering topics that are important for success. Some topics include: finding funding opportunities (federal agency, corporate, foundation), engaging with program managers, recruiting/managing/mentoring graduate student researchers, time management, tech transfer/entrepreneurship, research collaborations, finding mentors, etc. GEAR also includes a Grant Writing Workshop by an external expert and the Cohort-to-DC where participants identify and meet program managers that align with their research. GEAR meetings are hands-on and include Faculty Panels sharing their experience on the different topics, peer discussions, and application to the GEAR participants’ individual situations.
